GORE BAY—The Royal Canadian Legion’s Branch 514 in Gore Bay recently held a special evening to honour and recognize its many long serving members and appreciation for those who have supported the legion.
The Legion Honours and Awards celebrations took place September 19, with Legion President Jim Woods assisted by chairman Robert Yaegar presenting the awards.
Legion member Thomas J. Howard was presented with his 50-year service pin. Frank Cada and Ivan Purvis each received their 45- year service pin.
Robert Bould, Morris Emery, Robert V. Lamb and Mark R. Lamoureux were all presented with 25-year Legion service pins.
Bruce Third, Deborah Woods and Beverley Wright all received 20-year service pins, while Verna Hardwick, Norman A. Matheson, and Jeff Porter all received five- year service pins.
“We also awarded certificates of appreciation to those who have helped and for all that they have done for the Legion over the years,” Mr. Woods told The Expositor. He explained that Marilyn Clarke, Annie Porter, Erwin Thompson, Leo Orford, Hercules Kasombas and Alain Desaulniers were all recognized.
At the awards evening, Jack Bould presented a cheque in the amount of $501.70 on behalf of James J. Bousquet Realty to Mr. Woods toward the Legion building fund. Bousquet Realty held a barbecue lunch fundraiser in Gore Bay for the Legion this past summer.
