Crystal Shawanda to headline Her Northern Voice music festival

WIIKWEMKOONG—Wiikwemkoong multi-Juno award winner Crystal Shawanda will be the headline performer at the inaugural Her Northern Voice music festival. The event is a celebration of talented female artists from across Northern Ontario.

The event is being hosted by the Sudbury Performance Group (SPG), with YWCA Sudbury and the Sudbury Women’s Centre which is partnering with SPG for the event, scheduled to take place Saturday, August 6, from 12-8 pm at Bell Park in Sudbury.

Ms. Shawanda’s concert will take place at 8 pm at The Coulson Entertainment Centre. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by calling 705-662-8518 or purchased online at Eventbrite.

Mark Mannisto, president and founder of SPG told Sudbury.com, “the goal is to provide an avenue to showcase female music artists from the North while at the same time support Northern Ontario charities that specialize in providing essential services to women across Northern Ontario.” A total of nine female-driven musical acts will be featured, with each band featuring either a female lead singer or the majority of musical acts being female. Among the performers includes Tessa and Peter, Ashley Woodruff, Patricia Watson, Sex &Summer, Monochrome, Chanelle Albert & the Easy Company, and 21. The festival starts at noon and continues until 8 pm. It is a free event.
