Awesome Assiginack!
Assiginack is going to host a youth ball tournament on August 19-21! They will even open up games to the 18th if they get enough teams to register! As this is their first tournament, they are starting with just two age divisions, with the hopes of expanding next year.
The divisions will include 13 and under – players born 2009 and younger and then the 14-16 year of agers (players born in years 2006 – 2008). Teams are guaranteed three, five inning games. Games will be one hour with a five run, per inning limit with no tie games. Teams must have a minimum of 5 females and 5 males on the team.
The event will follow 3-Pitch rules with teams will pitch to their own team but may switch pitchers at any time. They Pitcher Protective Screen will be used. If batted ball hits screen it will counted as strike
Batting helmets must be worn by batters and baserunners. Helmets provided if needed.
Complete playing rules will be sent out the week prior to tournament. The cost is just $100 per team to enter. Once paid and registered, you will be sent a team document to fill out your coaching staff and players. Visit Assiginack.ca for information.
Manitoulin Pickleball
Here is an update from last week’s column. The Manitoulin Pickleball group would like to repeat that the “Introduction to Pickleball Sessions” for adults will start Saturday, July 30 at 1 pm at the Pickleball/Tennis Courts behind the NEMI Arena in Little Current and then will be offered every Tuesday evening (weather permitting) from 6-8 pm for the month of August at this same location. Wear running shoes and comfortable clothing. Paddles and balls will be available from the Club.
Feel free to drop in but to ensure a spot they suggest that you call ahead. You can contact George for more information and to book a spot at 705-805-2385. For those who have completed the introduction session you are welcome to continue coming out for regular play in the company of experienced club members.
It should be noted that the Manitoulin Pickleball Club has an active daytime, play schedule for registered members Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10 am to 12 pm. Their current club membership is just shy of 40 members. Due to the growing popularity of the game of Pickleball the club wishes to make the sport available to individuals whose work or family schedule conflict with daytime play. So, if there ever was a time to try something new this is it, the club welcomes you to the game of Pickleball. See you on the courts!
Battle of the barbs!
Seasonal residents, Dennis and Katie Mohatt like to trade good-natured, competitive jabs during their fishing exploits. This season, the father-daughter tournament had to be awarded to Katie with a solid three keepers to none, tally! Catch and release proponent, Dennis preferred to let his fish go slightly before the landing portion of the event!
A good sport is good for sports.
