AUNDECK OMNI KANING – On May 20th, 2022, information was received by Police regarding people trafficking controlled substances in the community of Aundeck Omni Kaning.
A Tele-warrant to Search was obtained for the residence at 18 Maple Crescent, Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation as a result of the information received.
On May 21st, 2022, OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) and UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service, executed the Warrant and arrested seven people without incident.
A search of the residence revealed:
• Approximately $5,000 in Canadian currency
• 120 grams cocaine (street value $24,000)
• Twelve oxycodone 5mg pills {Percocet} (street value $120)
• A large machete
As a result:
• Leonard NEGANNEGIJIG, 62 years, of Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation
• Dan NAHWEGAHBOW, 41 years, of Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation
• Dayna NAHWEGAHBOW, 26 years, of Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation
• Jonah NAHWEGAHBOW, 22 years, of Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation
• Sean CRANNEY, 47 years, of Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation
• Young Person, 15 years, of Brampton, Ontario
• Young Person, 15 years, of Scarborough, Ontario
Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the names of the young persons charged cannot be released.
have been charged with:
• Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in a Schedule I substance (cocaine) – S.5(2) CDSA.
• Possession of a Schedule I substance (oxycodone 5mg) – S.4(1) CDSA.
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000 (Canadian currency) – S. 354(1)(a) CC.
• Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose (Machete) – S. 88 CC.
• Young Person Failure to Comply with Undertaking – S. 145 (4)(a) CC.
The UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service, OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) and Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service remains committed to working collaboratively and will continue to focus its efforts on major crime operations that pose a direct and elevated threat to the safety, security, and wellness of our communities. This combined Integrated Street Crime Unit is a Joint Force Operation and aims to identify and disrupt organized crime on Manitoulin Island through innovative technology, collaborative partnerships and traditional Police work resulting in the arrests of those involved, holding them accountable for their criminal activities and the seizure of illegal drugs, prohibited firearms and proceeds of crime.
