The up and down in weather is making it hard to determine if it is spring or summer. Thankfully, the sun has been shining for all the outdoor sports over the past few weeks.
A sun joke for you: What happened to the girl who was up all night thinking about where the sun could have gone? The answer dawned upon her in the morning.
On Thursday, May 12, MSS hosted the NSSSA (Northern Shore Secondary School Athletics) tennis tournament. The MSS team placed first overall, winning NSSSA, and individual athletes placed first in every division, and second in four of the five divisions. Our athletes will now play at NOSSA on Friday, May 20 in North Bay. Go, Mustangs!
Today, Wednesday, May 18, more MSS athletes are in action at NSSSA track and field. Pre-NSSSA was last week on Wednesday, May 11 in Espanola. Our athletes performed very well and are well prepared for NSSSA today. Good luck everyone!
On Friday, May 27, from 7 to 10 pm there is a spring formal at MSS. Tickets for students are on sale next week in the cafeteria. Tickets are $10 for a single and $15 for a couple. If there is enough interest, there will be two late buses (one East End and one West End) available to take students home after the dance. For students purchasing tickets, there will also be a form where they can request songs to be put on the formal playlist.
The MSS SHARE/Go-Green is launching the MSS composting program to help divert waste and reduce contamination in landfills. On Thursday, May 19, the committee will be hosting a tea and bake sale in the cafeteria during the lunch hour. All students and staff are welcome to come buy a treat and cup of tea. There will also be a compost Kahoot! game for everyone to join. Teacher and SHARE/Go-Green leader, Ms. Bauer, says, “Thanks to a grant from the Learning for a Sustainable Future foundation, SHARE was able to purchase compostable cups (for the event) or students can bring a reusable cup for their tea.” The SHARE committee is also organizing volunteers to monitor waste sorting and deposit the compost at MSS. Ms. Bauer says that “with these efforts MSS will shift to more sustainable practices.” The proceeds from the tea and bake sale will support the Team Seas project. Team Seas is a fundraising campaign, initiated by Mark Rober and Mr. Beast, who are content creators on YouTube. The funds raised by Team Seas will go to two organizations, The Ocean Cleanup and Ocean Conservancy. The campaign and two organizations’ purposes is ‘to help bring attention to the problem of plastic pollution in our oceans and raise funds to help resolve it.’
Spymaster is still going! Students are continuing to use their spy skills throughout the halls trying to tag their targets with a clothespin. Out of approximately 100 players, only a few dozen are still in the game.
Joke of the week: It was a baby mosquito’s first day to fly out from home. When the mosquito came back home later that day, the father mosquito asked, “How was your journey?” The baby mosquito replied, “It went great, everyone was clapping for me!”
