SILVER WATER—The Silver Water community hall will soon be more active with seniors’ events and activities, thanks to federal funding provided recently.
“The Robinson Township Community Centre board (CCB) has received confirmation of funding of $16,300 through the New Horizons for Seniors program,” Willie Hunter, chair of the CCB told The Expositor.
“Lauren MacDonald and Darlene Munroe spearheaded the funding application to New Horizons,” noted Mr. Hunter. He explained the funding is being provided to help the community recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The funds will go toward providing computers, setting them up and an instructor will be provided teaching seniors how to use them,” said Mr. Hunter. “This will be available for seniors of Robinson, and Dawson Townships, as well as elders from both the Sheshegwaning and Zhiibaahaasing First Nations.
“We will be purchasing some computers, as well as a large screen television that will be used for exercise activities for seniors to get them out of their house and taking part in activities in the community,” continued Mr. Hunter. “We are hoping to get seniors out to participate and use the hall.”
