Ride Check Leads to Impaired Charge
On April 1, the Manitoulin detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint on Highway 540 at Bidwell Road in Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands (NEMI).
At approximately 10:41 pm a vehicle entered the checkpoint. After speaking with the driver, officers determined the driver was under the influence of a drug. A standard field sobriety test (SFST) was conducted, and the driver was subsequently arrested.
Volly Hendricks, 47 years old of Greater Sudbury, was charged with: operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the criminal code (CC), and operation while impaired-blood drug concentration, contrary to section 320.14(1)(c) of the CC.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay, on May 4.
Motor Vehicle Collision Leads to Refusal Charge
On March 25, at approximately 10 pm, the Manitoulin detachment of the OPP responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a passenger vehicle and an off-road vehicle (ORV), on Worthington Street in Little Current.
Investigation revealed that the ORV had hit the front end of the passenger vehicle and fled the scene. The occupants of the passenger vehicle were able to identify the driver of the ORV. Police later located the driver and after investigation, it was determined that this person had consumed alcohol and was subsequently arrested.
Troy Crawford, 28 years old, from Little Current was charged with: operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the (CC); failure or refusal to comply with demand, contrary to section 320.15(1) of the CC; careless driving, contrary to section 130(1) of the highway traffic act (HTA); driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the HTA; drive motor vehicle, no plates, contrary to section 7(1)(b)(i) of the HTA.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario court of justice in Gore Bay on May 4.
OPP Seeking Driver from ATV Accident
The Manitoulin detachment of the OPP is attempting to locate the driver of an all-terrain vehicle that was involved in an accident last Saturday.
The OPP reports that on Saturday, April 9 at approximately 10 pm, a collision involving an ATV occurred on Hall Street in Gore Bay. The Manitoulin OPP is attempting to locate the driver of the vehicle and confirm their well-being.
