MANITOULIN—Island municipalities went the extra mile this year to provide diversions from winter blahs-pandemic-enhanced isolation for Manitoulin residents by sponsoring an Island-wide snow sculpture contest. The contest attracted 22 entries and was declared a solid success by all and sundry.
First place of $100 (sponsored by the Northeast Town) went to William Quinn and the Quinn Family of Gore Bay for their Charlie Brown and Snoopy snow sculpture. Second place of $50 (sponsored by the Municipality of Central Manitoulin) went to Maureen Nahwegabo and family of Aundeck Omni Kaning for their unicorn snow sculpture and third place of $25 (sponsored by the Township of Assiginack) was secured by the Bowerman family of Central Manitoulin for their Jack-o-lantern snow sculpture.
Next up on the roster is a Winterscape-themed photography contest. Photos must be taken on Manitoulin Island between February 28 and March 20 on the theme of Winter Landscape. The images must be submitted no later than noon of March 20 to info@assignack.ca and include the name of the entrant and their age as there are age categories and prizes.
Note that by entering the contest you are authorizing the future use of your photos for promotional purposes by Island municipalities.
