EVELYN G. LANE

EVELYN G. LANE
Our family’s beloved matriarch passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at the age of 97. We knew this day would be coming given her good age. Still it wasn’t enough time with her for those of us who loved her. And we are many. Ninety-two of those years were spent on Barrie Island where she was born, raised, married the love of her life (Lloyd, predeceased) and raised her eight children: Larry (Sheila), Lola (David Langford), Rhonda (Charlie Smith), Doug (Linda), Marta (Joseph Wong, predeceased), Lori (Ron Erwin), Peter (predeceased) and Tammy (Mike Kennedy). We will be so lonely without our daily visits over the phone. Sorely missed by her sister Maudie (Barry Powell, predeceased), brother Bob (Debbie), Lloyd’s sister-in-law Margaret (Lawrence, predeceased), grandchildren Jeremy Lane (Marcée), Jennifer (Brian Rossmajer), Terry Gudmundson, Sheryl Gudmundson, Rebecca (Bill Leeney), Chuck Smith (Kelly), Brandon Smith, Angela (Darryl Wunsch), Ben Lane (Madge), Cameron Lane (Leonora), Cynthia Dahl (James Sommerville), Patrick Kennedy, and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great- grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. Predeceased by parents Clara and Arthur Lane, sister Bessie Lane, brother Jim Lane (Madeline, also predeceased) and sons-in-law Ray Gudmundson and Paul Thompson. Evelyn was an honest, strong, kind, selfless, hardworking and artistic woman, with a lovely singing voice, who believed in serving her church and community. She was always busy but never hesitated to help those in need. We will be so lost without her. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at the Simpson Funeral Home from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. (Due to COVID restrictions, 20 people will be allowed in the funeral home at one time. Masks and social distancing must be adhered to). A Graveside Service will be held at Gordon Cemetery on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 11 am. (Masks and social distancing must be adhered to. Please bring chairs for the service). Memorial donations may be made to the Lyons Memorial United Church (or a charity of your choosing) through SimpsonFuneralHome.ca.
