UPDATE: Wikwemikong Police confirm woman was victim of sexual assault

WIKWEMIKONG–The Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service is currently investigating a sexual assault incident that took place on Monday, July 8.

It was reported to police that a female victim was walking up a trail in the area known as ‘Suicide Hill’ (located behind the youth centre near Wabanosse Street) when she was attacked. As a result of the attack, the victim lost consciousness. Once the victim awoke, the police were notified immediately. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Rumours flooded social media sites of possible murder or suicide, but this is not the case, assures Constable Peltier. The investigation is that of sexual assault.

Police could not confirm whether any suspect or suspects had been arrested as the matter is still under investigation.

The Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service requested the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Forensic Identification Unit, which assisted with the examination of the scene.

The incident is being actively investigated by members of the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service and OPP Forensic Identification Unit.
