4elements Living Arts introduces ‘Get Active with the Arts’ program

KAGAWONG—4elements Living Arts is introducing a new program this fall, ‘Get Active with the Arts!,’ encouraging children and adults to get outside and get active while getting creative.

“Children and older adults are invited to get out on gentle and accessible hiking, biking and snowshoeing trails across Manitoulin Island,” explains the organization’s website. “Get physically active through creative arts—guides and art educations join up for some fun outings. This new project is primarily funded by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport and the Ontario Arts Council and is in collaboration with Manitoulin Island Cycling Advocates (MICA), Lightfood Bikes, Little Current Public School Go Green Club, Sheshegwaning First Nation and Manitoulin Nordic Ski Club.”

‘Get Active with the Arts’ kicks off with fall outings starting with Billings cycle rides part one on Saturday, September 20.

The ride will take place from 10 am to noon, guided by MICA, starting at the Bridal Veil Esso.

Following the ride, there will be a potluck lunch at 4elements from 12 to 1 pm and an art community collaboration session to develop designs for a permanent outdoor sculpture from 1 to 3 pm led by 4elements Executive Director Sophie Edwards and Community Program Coordinator Heather Thoma.

Billings cycle rides part two will take place on Saturday, September 27 from 10 am to noon, once again meeting at the Bridal Veil Esso, followed by a potluck and collaborative art session to further develop an outdoor sculpture.

The final fall event will take place on Saturday, October 4, starting with a bike ride from 10 am to noon, potluck and another collaborative art session on the sculpture.

All the programs are free, but donations to cover art materials are appreciated.

Bikes and snowshoes (for winter sessions) are available, but please call 4elements ahead of time to book equipment. For more information and to register visit www.4elementslivingarts.org or call 705-282-0444.
