Male arrested for attempted Murder

AWERES TOWNSHIP, ON – On June 7, 2016 at approximately 8:30 pm Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a 911 call at a residence in the 100 block of Rupert Acres Drive.  Upon arrival a 53 year old male was located at the scene with life threatening injuries. The male was transported to hospital by Sault Ste. Marie Emergency Medical Services (EMS). 

Members of the North East Region Criminal Investigation Unit under the direction of Detective Staff Sergeant Gerry Scherer of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are currently investigating. 

As a result a 70 years old, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario is charged with:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder as per section 239(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Aggravated Assault as per section 268 of the CC, and with
  • Assault with a Weapon as per section 267(a) of the CC.

The accused has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on June 8, 2016.
