Espanola – On May 15, 2016 at 8:00 p.m., an officer conducting routine patrol on Centre Street, stopped a vehicle for traveling almost twice the posted speed limit, in the Community Safety Zone near Algoma Street. The driver, a 19-year old Cambridge resident, was alone in the vehicle, and through routine questioning, divulged to the officer that he was in possession of Marijuana and Cocaine. A subsequent search of the vehicle incident to arrest, located 30 grams of Marijuana, and 37 grams of Cocaine, which was destined for sale on Manitoulin Island.
As a result of the traffic stop, the 19-year old male was charged criminally with one count of possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking, and one count of possession of a controlled substance. Further, he was charged with speeding, for traveling 95 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone. He will appear in Espanola Court on July 12, 2016, to answer to his charges.
The drugs seized had an estimated street value of $11,000.00.
