MANITOWANING—Despite the inclement weather over the past week, gardeners’ heads are filled with dreams of seeds, plants and digging their fingers into the soil. Each year for nearly a decade-and-a-half, Debajehmujig Storytellers have enhanced their land-based credentials in the hosting of a Seed Swap event.
This year will see a sharing circle co-hosted by the inimitable Theodore Flamand of Wiikwemkoong Lands fame and Island conservationist Kim Neale with a theme of ‘Cultivating Regeneration on Mnidoo Mnising.’
The sharing circle will take place from 1 to 3 pm on Saturday, April 5 and all community members are invited to join these two knowledgeable experts to discuss “re-learning and preserving cultural ways to regenerate our lands and waters.”
The seed swap itself will take place from 9 am to 3 pm and will feature a variety of workshops, music, entertainment and presentations throughout the day, as well as providing an opportunity to share and exchange your heirloom seeds.
The Seed Swap will take place at the Debajehmujig Storytellers’ building at 42 Queen Street in Manitowaning. Please see the ad on Page 11 for a full event agenda.
