MINDEMOYA—A total of thirty-two teams participated in the 13th annual Mindemoya Classic race on Sunday, June 29. The event is part of the Central Manitoulin Lions Club’s Homecoming Weekend and includes a 5.5 km run, a 4 km paddle and a 13 km bike ride. Money raised from the event helps to support the Grade 8 Outdoors Club at Central Manitoulin Public School.
While results were being tallied, Al, one of the organizers, thanked everyone for coming out. “I want to thank Lightfoot bikes again this year for helping out,” he said. “Also family, friends and parents for doing everything for us. More numbers showed up this year than expected. We have great weather. Thanks to everyone for showing up.”
Organizer André Leblanc noted the “super fast” times in the results. “It’s amazing,” he said. “They seem to get faster every year.” The fastest overall team, ‘That’s a Paddlin,’ with a time of 1:09:52, was in the Relay 4 Division. Team members included Brittany Durdle, Alex Anstice, Lucus Jamieson and Jeremy Cooper. Second place went to Money Team with a time of 1:20:50.
In the Relay Pairs Division, first place went to ‘One From Here, One From There,’ with a time of 1:14:57. Second place in Relay Pairs went to ‘Lilly Dippers,’ who had an overall time of 1:30:10, and third place went to ‘Burns Wharf Play List,’ with a time of 1:30:54.
In Pairs Endurance, ‘Escape to Race’ took first place with a time of 1:35:50. ‘Team J&K’ was second with a time of 1:43:45.
In the Solo Division, ‘Kerry Abols’ was first with a time of 1:17:11. ‘Lightfoot’ was second with a time of 1:20:10, and ‘Solo Bat’ was third with a time of 1:23:22.
‘The ABCs’ team was first in the Family Division, with a time of 1:18:38, while ‘We’re Trying’ came in second with a 1:29:15 time, and ‘Al’s Pals’ was third with an overall time of 1:31:32.
‘School House’ was first in the Corporate Division with a time of 1:32:00. In the Forty-Plus Division, ‘Wheezers and Geezers’ finished first with a time of 1:45:58.
